Frequently asked questions.

Find out how The Sleep Nut can help you

How do the one and two week services work?

Angela will send you a couple of forms to fill out so she can assess your current situation. Angela will review your sleep situation as well as a 24-hour log to get a clear view on what’s happening in your world of sleep. Angela will then complete a personalised, written assessment with recommendations on feeding, nutrition/solids, naps, overnight and a plan to improve things. You will also receive a sleep training method suitable for your baby’s age group and temperament (please note I do not sleep train newborns). After that, I support you through the changes with guidance, troubleshooting and adjustments as needed.

What is involved in a home visit?

Angela is available for home visits within Sydney’s North Shore and Northern Beaches. Angela will come to your home for 3-hours at lunch time or bedtime to support you during nap or bedtime settling. We will go over your written plan that Angela has written before you get started and Angela will guide you during the process. Once baby is asleep, Angela will go home and we will continue to work together for two-weeks while your sleep improves.

What ages do you support?

Angela works with newborns from 3+ weeks up until 5 years of age. Every age is different and each approach will be tailored to your baby’s age and temperament. Please note I do not sleep train newborns. Newborn support is focused around routines, feeding schedules, sleep schedules and a gentle hands-on settling technique. Older babies and toddlers will have a different approach with a hands-on method or check-in style method.

How do you support remotely?

Angela is available to work with clients all over the world. Even if you were next door, it could all be remote! Angela is available via phone, WhatsApp or email, whatever you like. Angela is responsive and if the timezone works, Angela can respond within 2-hours or less. Angela guarantees a response within 24-hours however in reality it is much sooner and usually can be instant.

Is sleep training included in your plans?

Yes, you will receive up to two choices of sleep training methods and you can select which one is suitable to your parenting style. Angela can guide you in this process. If you don’t want to sleep train, we can work on sleep hygiene, environment, schedules and nutrition to improve sleep in other ways however results may vary.

Do you offer responsive sleep approaches?

Yes, Angela will usually recommend responsive methods first and foremost. If the approach doesn’t suit your baby or child, we can re-assess and adjust the method as needed.

How long does it take to see improvements?

If parents are committed and dedicated to the changes recommended by Angela, you will likely see changes within 3-5 days (if not sooner).

What if my baby doesn’t respond to the plan?

We will make changes every 2-3 days to troubleshoot through the issue. Angela will adjust the plan as needed and you are welcome to discuss with Angela new approaches that you’re comfortable with.

I’m worried about hearing my baby cry. How do I deal with this?

No one likes to hear their baby cry, and no one wants to sleep train unless they really need to. There’s a good chance you are hearing a lot of crying now and having difficulty with sleep already, so why not use this time with Angela to optimise your sleep schedule to make positive changes. Angela won’t make you do anything you’re not comfortable with, however crying is the only way a baby can communicate when change is being made. We can’t stop them from crying, even the most gentle of methods, there will be crying. There is no true “no-cry” method, because crying is a form of communication for babies. What I can suggest, is that you use a responsive method where you stay with them in the room, so you can support them during the process and they know you are with them.
